Shipping & Free USPS Rate Calculator |

I'm hearing from many of you that the new USPS rates are causing a slight downturn in sales. Lower listed shipping costs bring in more bids. I've been investigating some new/old ways to cut the costs. Priority mail has gotten very expensive for cross-country shipments! Consider the following: Good old-fashioned Parcel Post has been working well for many eBay sellers. Gone are the days that packages take weeks to get across the country - now the Post Office seems to be getting Parcel post from coast to coast within a week. By the way, I weighed the "FREE" shipping boxes for Priority Mail, and found that they were adding an average of 7 OUNCES(!!) to my mailing costs. I guess the post office isn't so dumb after all. Especially with the new rates, the "Free" boxes carry their price in weight. If you are selling books, Media mail is an excellent alternative. I've been using that when I sell my own books. Most packages arrive within a week - only one in 40 took 15 days to arrive! Much of my eBay sales are going out via First Class mail with Delivery confirmation. Since First class mail needs to be protected, I'm using vinyl bubble mailers, packed with Styrofoam peanuts - I haven't had any damage as yet, and I've been doing it since June 1. (eBay store Sellers have the best prices for these mailers!) What if you have an item that's more than 2 pounds? I was going to give out the "code" for the postage calculator that I use in my own auctions. Fortunately for the writer of the code, he's been inundated with requests - unfortunately for us, he's begun to charge for the Premium version and support. BUT, for those of us, who can figure out how to use it (it's really self-explanatory) and want it for our auctions, we can click here to get it for free! |
